MUNSTER – More than 1,000 walkers and runners joined in to Unite & Fight Cancer at Munster High School football field for the 12th annual event benefiting the Cancer Resource Centre in Munster. Teams representing the hospitals of Community Healthcare System; local businesses and those in the community walked/ran Oct. 4 to raise more than $113,000 for loved ones and friends touched by cancer.
The Cancer Resource Centre, located at 926 Ridge Road in Munster, helps those affected by cancer obtain the support and resources they need to cope with a diagnosis. All services, which include support groups, educational programs and networking groups, are offered to cancer patients and their family members free of charge.
The Resource Centre is a program of the Community Cancer Research Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of cancer care available in Northwest Indiana and Chicago suburbs. The Centre is funded from donations and grants, in-kind donations and volunteer support.
The top fund raising team taking 1st place was Peoples Bank and the individual with the greatest donation was Austin Logue of Munster. Second place winners include the South Shore Surgical team and Katie Hurey of Munster as the 2nd place individual winner. Banking on a Cure (Patient Financial Services/CFNI Accounting-Finance) earned 3rd place team with Alice Cannon of Munster coming in 3rd
place individual winner.
Special mentions for the Best Team Banner go to Owl Walk for You (Pre-registration), 1st Place and the Spirit Award “Dataskywalkers” went to Data Analytics.
Winners of the Fun Run were: Gabriela Lopez with a time of 21:47.8 and Brandon Hurey with 18:23.9.
Betty Lane was the winner of the Home Care division movie night out basket raffle to benefit Unite & Fight Cancer. Sherrie Passmore was the winner of Home Health’s hand-painted wine glasses and carafe basket and Karen Brock was the recipient of the Fall theme basket.
