The Cancer Resource Centre is a support program of the Community Cancer Research Foundation. Located at 926 Ridge Road, it is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to
promote the well-being of those whose lives have been touched by cancer by offering them support, education, and encouragement. Northwest Indiana cancer patients, survivors, their friends and family are provided access to educational and social events, mind and body healing classes, professionally-led support groups and other services free-of-charge. The Cancer Resource Centre is exclusively supported through donations from the community and the fundraising efforts of its administrative staff. Residents throughout the region are welcome, and need not be patients of the hospitals of Community Healthcare System.
The Unite & Fight Cancer Walk and 5K Run is an annual fall fundraising event organized by the Cancer Resource Centre that brings the Northwest Indiana community together for a common cause: to celebrate the lives of cancer survivors and victims, and support efforts to find a cure. Teams and individuals participate in an afternoon walk or run that begins with a remembrance of those who have lost their battle with cancer. Food, music, entertainment and prizes are also part of the event. Last year, Unite & Fight raised more than $110,000 for the Cancer Resource Centre, and another successful year is anticipated on October 2, 2016 as the 13th Annual Unite & Fight Cancer event approaches.
