Douglas A Smith Shares Outlook on Happiness at Annual Cancer Resource Centre Fundraiser

MUNSTER – Teacher, writer and advisor Douglas A. Smith will share his advice on how to maintain a positive outlook on life as the guest speaker for the 11th annual Share the Love event, Tue, Jan. 23 at the Center for Visual & Performing Arts in Munster. Smith is the author of Happiness: The Art of Living with Peace, Confidence and Joy. He also teaches an undergraduate course at DePauw University and leads sessions at the Canyon Ranch health resorts on “The Science & Skill of Happiness.”

Sponsored by the Friends of the Cancer Resource Centre in conjunction with the auxiliaries of Community Hospital, St. Catherine Hospital and St. Mary Medical Center, the luncheon program highlights Smith’s outlook on happiness, wellbeing and the skill of dealing with setbacks in life. In the midst of a successful business career, Smith received life-altering news that set him on an entirely new journey to discover the ingredients that lead to true happiness. Through research and study, he began to understand that the most joyful people on earth have three things in common. They remember the past with peace, anticipate the future with confidence and live in the present with joy and meaning.

Net proceeds from the luncheon will benefit the Cancer Resource Centre in Munster. The Resource Centre is a program of the Community Cancer Research Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of cancer care in northwest Indiana and the south Chicago suburbs. All services of the Cancer Resource Centre – support groups, mind-body-spirit classes, educational offerings and a resource library - are offered free of charge to those in need.

Beginning at 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m., vendor tables will offer boutique items for sale with a portion of those proceeds also benefiting the Cancer Resource Centre. Each reservation is $50 per person and will include a copy of Smith’s book. Demonstrations, including chair yoga, energy medicine and chair massage will be available between 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. Space is limited. Reservations must be received no later than Wednesday, January 17, 2018.

Luncheon will be served at 12 p.m. Menu items will be prepared by Center for Visual & Performing Arts Executive Chef Joseph Trama. The Center for Visual & Performing Arts is located at 1040 Ridge Road in Munster.
